SCHOOL SITE COUNCILS
Each of our largest schools (Healdsburg Elementary School, Healdsburg Junior High and Healdsburg High School) has a School Site Council.
These committees meet throughout the year to set goals, align resources (money, time and additional staff) to address the goals and then to evaluate our progress towards reaching them. The goals, budget and evaluation are developed into a written plan called the ‘Single Plan for Student Achievement’ which is updated annually, approved by the School Site Council and submitted to the Governing Board of the District for final approval.
A School Site Council (SSC) is constituted with a mix of parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators, and, at the secondary level, includes students.
The SSC oversees many of the categorical funds. These funds are provided by the state and federal governments in order to support student achievement in a variety of areas. The largest allocations of funds are:
| Categorical Fund | Source | Targeted Recipients | Purpose | Site |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Title I | Federal | Students below grade level | Provide additional services to increase student achievement | Healdsburg Elementary |
| Economic Impact Aid | State | English Learners | Provide additional support to accelerate the acquisition of English | All Sites |
| Art and Music Block Grant | State | All Students | Provide art- and music- related activities including field trips, special performances, consultants working with students, purchase of materials | All Sites |
| Title II | Federal | All Staff | Professional development for teachers, administrators and support staff | All Sites |
| Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) | State | Students in Grades 4-8 | Provide additional resources (instructional materials, extra stuff) to prevent tobacco use | Healdsburg Elementary, Healdsburg Junior High |
| Safe and Drug Free Schools | Federal | All Students | Provide additional resources to prevent drug and alcohol use | All Sites |
Funds for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) are overseen the GATE Advisory Committee. See information on GATE on the Curriculum page.
Technically, Healdsburg Elementary School is one school with two campuses: Healdsburg Elementary School (K-2) and Fitch Mountain Campus (grades 3-5). There is one School Site Council for Healdsburg Elementary School as a whole.
Participation on School Site Councils is through an election process. If you are interested in learning more including participating on an SSC, please contact your principal.
SSC meetings are posted on school activity calendars and announced in school newsletters.
