Judy Velasquez, President

Judy has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2004. She worked in the Healdsburg schools for 25 years teaching second, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. She was a mentor teacher in reading, writing and history. She attended the writing program at the University of New Hampshire and implemented writing programs for the elementary schools. Her husband was a counselor at the high school for 32 years, and both her son and daughter attended Healdsburg schools from pre-school through grade twelve. She has two granddaughters and volunteers in their school in Petaluma and in Healdsburg's schools. She loves reading, gardening, and quiltmaking.

Edward (Ted) Crowell
Vice-President/Clerk

Ted has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2008. Ted completed his formal education in 1966 (Ph.D., M.A University of Washington; Philosophy and BA University of California, Santa Barbara, 1962). He has taught at the university level (Washington State University and University of Nevada, Reno) for a total of 8 years. For 13 years (1975-1988), he was employed by the State of Nevada in various positions, including training manager, director of vocational re-employment programs, and editor/writer. He has been a resident of Healdsburg since 1989. Since then, he has been a part-time instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College (Philosophy and Computer Applications). He has also served on several college committees which include District Negotiations, Curriculum Review, Employee Evaluation and Budget Advisory. He and his wife, Andrea Michelsen, have a daughter who has benefited from the Healdsburg public schools (K-12). She graduated in 2007 and completed the six years of the Two-Way Immersion Program in Spanish.

Mary Burke

Mary has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2005. She was headmaster of a coeducational independent school, grades 6-12, for 20 years before retiring and moving to Healdsburg. She holds degrees from Northwestern (BA. Comparative Literature) and Stanford (MA Education), where she met and married her husband, Dick, in 1967. After graduating from Stanford, she taught English at Gunn High School in Palo Alto. She earned her Ph.D. at Washington University (1984) in "The Learning Process" (cognitive learning theory). Mary and Dick have two adult children, a daughter who lives in San Francisco, and a son who lives in London. Their first grandchild, Anne, was born March 13, 2005. Mary and Dick enjoy their two golden retrievers, traveling, and living in Healdsburg.

Lorri Emmerich

Lorri has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2002. She is the general manager for Murphy-Goode Winery. She has one son who currently attends Healdsburg High; Lorri also attended Healdsburg High, graduating in 1977. She is a member of the board of directors for the Healdsburg Future Farmers Country Fair and the Boys & Girls Club. In her spare time she enjoys reading, golfing with her husband and son, and sharing a bottle of wine with friends.

Genevieve Llerena

Genevieve joined the Board of Trustees in 2008. She moved to Healdsburg in 1997 to help her family start Chateau Felice Winery, where she was the winemaker until 2006. She and her husband Patrick are consultants with Iridesse Winery Consulting, and she is the Director of Winemaking for Viña de la Cruz. She holds a BS from UC Davis in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Chapman University. She has a daughter in first grade in the Dual Immersion program at HES. In her spare time she enjoys tennis, swimming, softball, knitting and large cups of tea.
