Public Review of the Healdsburg 20/20 Plan Continues!
J. Harding (2/12/10)
The latest version of the 20/20 plan (draft dated 2/2/10) is now available for public review and comment. An earlier draft of the plan has been circulating for the past month and many staff and community members have read it and given feedback. The 20/20 Steering Committee has thoughtfully reviewed this input and, in many cases, incorporated the suggestions which were received. Download the 20/20 Plan here.
The process of articulating the interests of the community and the direction of the school district is at the heart of creating the 20/20. Moving back and forth between community input and further revisions is an essential step towards creating the final version of the plan. We continue to welcome input as we strive to accurately capture community interests!
Please continue to direct your feedback to Superintendent Jeff Harding by phone (431-3488) or e-mailjharding@husd.com Thank you for your participation in this critical process!
Healdsburg 20/20 Plan
J. Harding (1/14/10 abridged 2/12/10)
The purpose of the Healdsburg 20/20 plan is to provide a vision for the District. It will guide us in establishing priorities and setting our course over the next several years. An inclusive, far-reaching process was conducted over the past six months. More than 500 people, including parents, students, community members, faculty and support staff participated! Their input was synthesized into the draft document which is available here.
The current plan is for the Healdsburg 20/20 document to be finalized and brought to the Board of Trustees for approval later this Spring. Activities from the plan will be developed into an action plan on an annual basis. A sample of the action plan is Download the sample Action Plan here The action plan will guide the day-to-day priorities and will ensure the implementation of the overarching goals and strategies.
Public review of the draft document, the Healdsburg 20/20 plan, formally began at a Special Board meeting held on January 13, 2010. Discussion of the draft will continue over the next few months’ board meetings.
H1N1 Update
A. Millar (9/15/09)
The District is continuing to work with the Sonoma County Office of Education and the Sonoma County Department of Public Health to reduce the potential impact of this year’s flu season. Superintendent Jeff Harding outlines measures that families can take to help keep all of our children healthy. We are hoping that, by working together, we’ll all stay healthy this year! Transitioning into
Basic Aid Status
The Healdsburg Unified School District is going through a major transition in our funding model. This change has shifted how we see our enrollment and created the need for new policies. Please read this article by Superintendent Jeff Harding answering some key questions regarding our new status as a "Basic Aid" district. It originally ran in the Healdsburg Tribune in June, 2009.

If you walk around the campus at Healdsburg Junior High, you will feel the positive energy generated by students and staff who enjoy being here and make every effort to make HJH the best place for kids!
Healdsburg Junior High has been here for years, first in a wonderful old building as Healdsburg High School and then as the Junior High. In 1975 the old building was replaced by our current facility in an effort to make us earthquake safe. We have had as many as 800 students and as few as 400, but no matter the size, the spirit of HJH has always been focused on what is best for our students. In 2006, we added 6th graders to our school and we are reaping the benefits of a larger student body and students who attend for three years and are committed to being involved in their school. Over the years our student population has changed as our community changes and is fairly representative of Healdsburg demographics. This year we have 500 students in grades 6-8. While most of our students come from our community, we have many who chose to attend HJH from other communities in Sonoma County. Part of the reason for this is our strong academic program along with the small-town feeling that exemplifies Healdsburg. Every student is known well by at least one adult, often more, and every effort is made to connect students to our school and build academic and social success.
Healdsburg has that wonderful small town advantage where the community is closely involved in the schools. HJH enjoys outstanding support from our community. Parents are invited in to work with our staff so that they are closely involved with their child´s education. Community groups and members contribute time, energy and funding to support our academic and extra-curricular programs. We continue to improve in our efforts to provide support for those students who are in need while challenging all of our students to perform and produce work at their highest levels.
