Support Our Local Schools Town Auction May 13

Mark your calendars now for May 13th from Noon to 4 PM to visit downtown Healdsburg, bid on the many fabulous items and packages offered by local merchants and support the businesses that support our children's education! In addition to the great auction items available for silent auction bidding, there will be activities for all ages including face-painting, roving musical entertainment and other surprises on the Plaza.

Downtown Healdsburg business owners Cathy Boitano-Grande of Bella, Dionne Estabrook of Strawberry Creek and Sue Sacks of Options have organized this new benefit event for local public schools. According to these very energetic and enthusiastic event organizers, participating local Healdsburg merchants and the Healdsburg Education Foundation expect the Town Auction to become an annual event bringing together the whole community to have fun and at the same time, support Healdsburg public schools.

Over 60 Healdsburg businesses are participating by providing a place to bid and contributing items to the auction. Many items will be combined in unique and exclusive packages available only at this event. A complete list of participating merchants and auction lots is available on the web at www.healdsburg.com.

In addition to this being a local business-based fundraiser, this event is unique in that it takes place during a Saturday afternoon at individual businesses downtown. A “roving” silent auction is planned, with the bidding taking place at each participating place of business. Bidders will go from business to business, bidding on the items and package lots displayed at each location. A central tally board in the Plaza and an announcer will showcase the bidding progress throughout the afternoon. Proceeds will go to the Healdsburg Education Foundation.

See you in downtown Healdsburg on Saturday, May 13 from Noon to 4 PM to kick off the First Annual Town Auction!

AH!TV Celebrates Its First Year
Last Friday night Access Healdsburg’s AH!TV (Comcast Channels 26 & 27) celebrated their one year anniversary with a release party for the Healdsburg Unified School District DVD, the broadcast of Stories of the Wine Country with Gina Riner and a live performance by In Black, a local jazz group of very talented, very young (middle and high school age!), musicians, for the premiere of a new show called Art of Jazz.

Portions of the DVD for the Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) were shown at the event. HUSD parent volunteer Joyce Jensch directed the DVD project with filming and editing done by Healdsburg High School student Darby Beltran, as well as John Brandau, AH!TV playback technician, and Justin Whitaker, General Manager of Access Healdsburg. The HUSD DVD includes interviews with teachers and administrators interspersed with footage of real students at Healdsburg public schools during regular school days. The footage and accompanying soundtrack not only show viewers what students experience a the schools, but they also exhibit the special effects that can be achieved using the equipment and facilities at the Media Center of Access Healdsburg, as well as the talents of the student staff trained at this facility. The completed DVD will be made available for distribution later this year.

Following the showing of the DVD, attendees were treated to Gina Riner’s interview with Walter Murray and Amarica Rafanelli in the new show, Stories of the Wine Country. Each episode features a member of our community sharing stories from the past. Next, In Black took the stage to kick off the Art of Jazz series. Attendees were treated to the enormous talent of In Black which also exhibited the top quality facility in which they performed and the excellent sound system in place for musicians to use in recording tracks—and it is right here in Healdsburg!

Friday Night Jams are held most Friday evenings at 8 PM and are a great way to spend Friday nights—the live studio where the musicians perform has seating available and the music can be heard throughout the Media Center for the public to drop-in and experience the show, live. For those that cannot make it to the studio, it is shown live on Channel 26 and rebroadcast several times each week.

If you missed the anniversary party, you can visit Access Healdsburg AH!TV in the Healdsburg High School Media Center and on the web at www.ahtv.org  or call 473-0888.
