ART, DRAMA & SPORTS AT HEALDSBURG HIGH

Delaine Eastin Art Gallery on High School Campus
The Delaine Eastin Art Gallery, named for the former State Superintendent of Public Instruction, is a professional art gallery on the Healdsburg High School campus. An ArtsWork Grant from The State Department of Education initially funded the gallery. The gallery shows the work of professional artists and is used as an educational experience for students, parents and members of the community. Teachers bring their classes to the gallery to observe the artwork and write responses to what they see. Students at the high school help hang the art shows and publicize them. The gallery is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 12-4 and by appointment.

If you would like to volunteer as a “gallery sitter” during the hours the gallery is open, please call Sally Baker, HHS Art Department Chair, at 431-3456 or e-mail her at sbaker@husd.com.  No experience necessary!

Alice in Wonderland by HHS Drama Department
The high school drama department will perform Alice in Wonderland in Frost Hall at Healdsburg High on Friday October 7 and Saturday October 8 at 8:15 PM. Ticket sales start about one half hour before show time with ticket prices $8 for adults and $6 for students. Ticket sale proceeds defray production expenses—donations and Adopt-A-Class commitments gladly accepted! The whole community is invited to enjoy the show. Enter the high school through the double doors at the school office entrance and prepare to be transported with Alice to Wonderland!

Boosters & Sports
Fall sports are well underway at the high school and the high school Boosters club is ready to support the student athletes and their coaches. The Boosters club was started by an energetic group in 1974. Dorothy Studer was one of the founding members and still serves on the board of directors for the group and her grandson is currently an athlete at HHS. This year’s funding issues combined with the always willing Healdsburg community spirit has inspired many new volunteers and Boosters meetings are well attended. The efforts of all the Boosters volunteers and donors are very much appreciated by all the student athletes and makes a big difference in their daily training and scheduled games. According to HHS Boys JV Soccer Coach Lindsey Brown, "Boosters has been instrumental in keeping sports strong at our high school. We were able to purchase much needed equipment because of the generosity of their supporters. Many athletes have benefited from the soccer program and it wouldn't have been possible without Boosters.”

The Boosters club meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30-7:30 pm in the HHS Library or in Room 20 at HHS unless otherwise announced. For more information about how you can get involved or to make a donation please call Wayne or Pauline Rogers at 433-1820.

The Healdsburg Unified School District Communications Committee produces this column. The committee meets the 4th Monday of each month at 3:30 PM at the Healdsburg High School library. All are invited to attend. For more information about the committee, you may contact Julie Conklin at 486-4914 or e-mail the committee at communications@husd.com
