“FACES” OF THE HEALDSBURG EDUCATION
FOUNDATION
$160,000 and Growing!
This year the Healdsburg
Education Foundation (HEF) has raised over $160,000 partnering with our
community, public schools and other nonprofits to meet essential student
needs and to provide extra services.
The HEF Board of Directors is composed of 13 dedicated donor volunteers.
Three are profiled today:
Jesse Shaw, President
Jesse came to Healdsburg in 1994 from the University of California where
he served as Associate Director of the Budget—meaning, he has a lot of
experience fundraising for public education! Jesse owns GourmetWine
Tours and conducts vineyard tours for Gallo of Sonoma.
Jesse has served on the Budget Resources Committee for Healdsburg
schools since 1999. One daughter is a graduate of Healdsburg High School
and another is entering the high school from Healdsburg Junior High.
Jesse is working “to inform our community about public schools’
financial and program needs that are no longer supported by State
funding---California public schools today are State assisted, not State
funded.”
Anne Friedemann, Vice President/Treasurer
Anne has two children—a daughter entering the Junior High and a son
entering fifth grade at Foss Creek. Anne has served on various school
and district wide committees for over six years. At Live Oak Preschool
Anne served on the Board of Directors and chaired fundraising
committees. She has also served on the Healdsburg Youth Soccer League
Board as Registrar and then President—whew!
Anne tracks and assures that Annual Fund donations are allocated and
spent as directed by each donor. She also tracks and coordinates
restricted donations, such as those received in support of Kathy
Murphy's run to support athletics. Accountability is extremely important
to Anne, “not only as a board member, but as a donor. As a 501(c)(3)
non-profit, receipts are issued to donors acknowledging their
tax-deductible contribution.”
Gina Fontana, Development Committee Chair
Gina is a dentist in Santa Rosa and has served on the board for two
years. Both her high school age sons “are bilingual, have experienced
the first rate instrumental music programs, been involved in countless
sports and do well academically thanks to the dedication of Healdsburg
public schools and generous community support.
“I’ve been so impressed with the outpouring of support. I’ve had offers
of help from people new to Healdsburg and from alumni, plus all that
have been donating to the Foundation for years.”
There are so many more “faces of HEF’—you may already be one by donating
to the Foundation. If not, look for Jesse, Anne and Gina around
town—talk to them and find out how you can invest your time and talent
to help the Foundation continue to support education.
