URGENT NOTICE TO THE COMMUNITY OF HEALDSBURG

FROM THE HEALDSBURG UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (HUSD)

Healdsburg’s public schools are in financial trouble—your input is needed on how to restore many school programs including academics, arts, music, sports and other “optional” budget items such as librarians, small class sizes and student clubs that have been reduced over the last several years.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

BECOME INFORMED ABOUT THE BUDGET

Go to the HUSD website at < http://www.husd.com/>. Select “District News” and “Hot Topics”.

If you do not have access to the web, call the HUSD office at 431-3488 to obtain copies of the information.

ATTEND A PUBLIC FORUM (see site key at bottom of this page)

This is an informal time to exchange information and ideas with available personnel from the HUSD Administration, teaching staffs, School Board as well as other members of the community:

Monday,    January 10 at 7:00 PM at Foss Creek School (following the PTA meeting)

Tuesday,   January 11 at 8:00 AM at Healdsburg Elementary School (Bilingual meeting)

January 11 at 7:00 PM at Healdsburg Elementary School (following PTO meeting)

Tuesday,   January 18 at 8:00 AM at Foss Creek School

January 18 at 7:00 PM at Alliance Medical Center (Bilingual meeting)

Thursday, January 20 at 7:00 PM at Healdsburg Jr. High Multipurpose Room

JOIN A “HOT TOPIC” COMMITTEE

There are 6 committees that need your input and expertise—Parcel Tax, School Configuration Cost, District Healthcare Benefits, District Properties, Legislative Action and Communications. To participate in one or more of these, notify the HUSD office at 431-3488 or e-mail <boardoftrustees@husd.com>. Recommendations from the committees are due to the School Board March 1, 2005.

ATTEND SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS

The School Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Healdsburg City Hall Council Chambers at 401 Grove St. in Healdsburg. These are formal business meetings. To address the Board the public must submit a Public Comment Card found at the entrance to the meeting.
