Issue 61
In Part I we described the Budget Resources Committee and the Elementary Configuration Committee. This week we will list some of the other committees that are in place in the District. Some are comprised of just District staff, but many also include parents and provide an excellent way for the community to get involved and be a part of the decision making that takes place.
Standing Committees: District Curriculum Council – provides a central clearinghouse that reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees on the adoption of textbooks, supplementary instructional materials and books, literature books, classes, and curriculum. The committee consists of both staff and parents.
Emergency Preparedness Committee – responsible for making sure the District is prepared to take care of our kids in the event of an emergency. Committee members include the principals from each of the four schools, a representative from the Police Department and City of Healdsburg, the Director of Transportation, district nurse, a teacher representative, and the Director of Student Services.
Technology Committee – responsible for keeping all technology equipment up and running, protecting against viruses, accepting donated equipment and planning future enhancements as funding permits. The committee currently consists of staff only.
District Communications Committee - responsible for keeping parents and the public informed of what is happening in the District. The District website and this column are both produced by this committee. Staff, administration and parents are represented and new parents are always encouraged to join us.
District Gate Advisory – represents the Gifted and Talented Education Program (GATE) in our district. This group ensures that parents and members of the community have the opportunity to assist in and support the educational process through participation in decision making, training, volunteer activities, and the creation of partnerships. The advisory committee is composed of parents, community members, staff and administration.
Temporary Committees: As a result of the passage of Measures G and H, there are now several new Bond Committees formed (in addition to the Elementary Configuration Committee). These committees are responsible for developing the needs for each project as well as its design.
· High School Athletic Fields · High School Building Smith Robinson Gym Lobby/Classroom Building · New Fitch Mountain School · New Healdsburg Elementary K-Wing Building · Teacher Learning Center · Citizen’s Oversight Committee
For a full list of District committees and their descriptions, please check out the District website at www.husd.com. There you will also find the contact person for each committee.
Finally, we want to thank those of you who have or are currently serving on a committee(s). We know that you are busy, but it’s great to see parents and community getting involved with our kids’ education. They are our future, and we need to do all that we can to give them the best education possible.
