Issue 70 It’s Time for Back To School Night Now that school has started, it is time to think about attending Back To School Night at each Healdsburg school. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend these evening meetings which are all scheduled during the month of September. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher(s) and get a feeling for what lies ahead for the rest of the school year. Many teachers provide parents with a syllabus of topics to be taught during the year. They also talk about what will be expected of students regarding homework, testing and class participation. And finally they give parents an opportunity to ask questions about anything related to school and the classroom. So come prepared with questions. This year we’d also like to suggest that parents come to Back To School Night prepared to participate in Healdsburg Education Foundation’s Adopt-A-Class program. With continuing budget cuts, the operating budgets at all Healdsburg schools are now about a third of what they were just 5 years ago. The Adopt-A-Class program provides a means for parents to lend support to teachers during this difficult time. They can make donations to specific teachers and departments with moneys that may be used as the teaching staff wishes. Parents are encouraged to find out from their student’s teacher(s) what is needed in the classroom and offer to assist them in providing necessary materials and supplies. They may donate requested supplies directly to the teacher or make a financial donation by sending in a check in an Adopt-A-Class envelope. No specific amount is required. Envelopes are available in the classrooms and in all school offices. Donations may also be made on the HEF website at www.HEFschools.com. The Healdsburg Back To School Night schedule is:
