Issue 52 Parents Needed to Help Communicate With Other Parents Many Healdsburg parents are eager to get information about what is going on in their children's schools. They want to be a part of their children's education even though they can't physically be onsite during the school day. They welcome the weekly bulletins and newsletters from the schools and the information provided in this column. We members of the Healdsburg Unified Communications Committee get feedback all the time from parents saying how much they appreciate and depend on these communications. Although the school staff does a very good job of keeping parents advised of important school activities, much of the communication is actually prepared and delivered by volunteer parents. These are parents who have a little time during the day to spend working with the school staff, learning what's going on in the schools, and sharing that information with other parents. It's a very rewarding job for them and much appreciated by the rest of the parents. For this process to continue, we need to keep recruiting new parents to help in this communication effort. Parents are needed for a variety of tasks ranging from stuffing envelopes to researching articles on specific topics. Parents are also invited to sit on the Communications Committee, the group which produces this column. No previous experience is required – just an interest in keeping in touch with your child's school and sharing that information with other parents. If this sounds like something that you might like to be a part of, please contact Pat Louvau at 433-8755 evenings [ plouvau@husd.com ]. Support HEF Adopt-A-Class Program The Healdsburg Education Foundation (HEF) is again presenting their annual Adopt-A-Class program. This program provides a means for parents to lend support to specific teachers and departments to be used as the teaching staff wishes. Parents are encouraged to contact their student’s teacher(s) and offer to assist them in providing necessary materials and supplies. They may donate requested supplies directly to the teacher or make a financial donation by filling out and submitting an Adopt-A-Class form. No specific amount is required. Forms can be found in all school offices and on the HEF website at www.HEFschools.com. A recent national study found that teachers supply an average of $443/year of their own money to provide their classrooms with needed materials. That is money that they can ill afford. Let’s make an effort to dramatically reduce that amount in Healdsburg this year. With your help, we can reach HEF’s goal for this year of seeing that every classroom is adopted. |
