In accordance with Section 14263 of Title V of the California Administrative Code, the
following policy and administrative procedure is hereby adopted by the Board of Trustees
to define the authority of the driver of the bus or other school vehicle which is
transporting students between home and school or other destinations, to define the
standard of conduct which shall be enforced by the driver of the vehicle, and to outline
the administrative procedures to be followed in enforcing this policy.
AUTHORITY OF THE DRIVER
Pupils being transported in a school bus or other school vehicle shall be
under the authority of, and responsible directly to, the driver of the bus or other
vehicle; and the driver shall be held responsible for the orderly conduct of the pupils
while they are on the bus or other school vehicle, or being escorted across a street,
highway, or road. Continued disorderly conduct or persistent refusal to submit to
the authority of the driver shall be sufficient reason for a pupil to leave the bus or
other vehicle in route between home and school or other destination.
1. Drivers have full responsibility and authority over students on
their bus. The law requires that he keep order on the bus for the student's own safety and
protection. Any student may be refused transportation for failure to cooperate in
complying with transportation code.
2. General Rules of conduct on bus:
a. Students may talk as long as it does not become loud or
boisterous.
b. Students must remain in seat while bus is in motion.
c. Students are not to throw things in the bus, or out bus window.
d. Students should sit properly in seat facing the front.
e. Students are not to reach out or lean out of window.
f. Students are not to continually adjust window. The decision of
the driver is final if there is a question about the window being open.
g. Students are not to swing, crowd, or shove in seats while bus makes turns.
h. Each student is responsible for his own property. Students are not to
engage in horseplay with another student's property.
i. A student who wishes to get off the bus at a stop other than the regular
bus stop must have a written request from parents properly signed by parent and dated and
approved by the office.
j. A student may not take a guest on bus unless a request is signed in the
office.
k. A student must cooperate and fully accept the authority of the driver.
l. There shall be no gum chewing or eating on the bus..
m. Students must board bus at his regular stop, otherwise, transportation may be denied.
n. No pets of any description will be allowed on the bus.
3. Violations:
a. A student who violates any of the above rules should be
warned by the driver. If the warning is not heeded, the driver will put the student
on report to the school principal.
b. Any student who is put on the report will have his parents notified of such
misconduct.
c. A student who is put on report for a second time may be suspended from
riding the bus for a period of one week.
d. A student who has a further record of misconduct may be suspended from
riding the bus for an indefinite period.
